Bonus Sing Second Podcast - Commissioning 101 Special
Welcome to another great episode of the Sing Second podcast. We bring you the stories and happenings at the Naval Academy and the Naval Academy Alumni Association and Foundation (AA&F). A bonus pod this week. We worked on a Saturday and made a podcast about it. AA&F hosted Commissioning 101 at the Fluegel Alumni Center last Saturday. We briefed the class of 2025 parents on "What to expect when you're expecting a 2025 Graduate." We interview Lori Coogan - our Director of Parent Programs and USNA Spouse - about how Commissioning 101 helps parents navigate commissioning week better. We also highlight two alumni-owned businesses. We talk to Sarah Martella '17 of Fair Winds Sporting Company and Ryan Curry '03 of The Cover Keeper. They both talk about their businesses and why they stay involved and give back to USNA and parents. Chris and John also break down John's trip to San Diego to support a Foundation Board of Directors trip to visit our recent alums serving in the San Diego AOR. Give a listen. Beat Army ... always.

Trump fires Joint Chiefs chairman, Navy head in DOD leadership purge
President Donald Trump on Friday evening fired Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. CQ Brown, Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Lisa Franchetti and Air Force Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Jim Slife. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said in a statement that Trump plans to nominate retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Dan Caine, who joined the venture capital firm Shield Capital in January, as the nation's next chairman of the Joint Chiefs. “General Caine embodies the warfighter ethos and is exactly the leader we need to meet the moment,” Hegseth said. “I look forward to working with him.” No replacements for Franchetti — the first woman to serve as a service chief — or Slife were announced. Hegseth said he is requesting nominations to fill their roles.

Rotary Club of Annapolis raises over $20,000 through Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium concessions
The Rotary Club of Annapolis has strengthened its fundraising efforts by staffing concessions at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, generating $20,800 in 2024 to support local and international initiatives. This partnership, which began in 2021, has provided a consistent funding source for the club's activities, supplementing traditional donations and fundraising efforts. Funds raised from USNA graduation and commissioning were allocated to international projects in South Sudan, Guatemala, and Cambodia. Proceeds from the Military Bowl will also support global grant initiatives, with specific projects to be determined. Revenue from football concessions helps finance local programs, including the club's Helping Hands and Care & Compassion committees, Little Free Libraries, and its affiliate, Annapolis Rotaract.
