In Memoriam: Distinguished Graduate Admiral Harry D. Train II ’49, USN (Ret.)

Admiral Harry D. Train II, a distinguished U.S. Navy officer, dedicated public servant, and devoted family man, passed away at the age of 98. From 1978 to 1982, he served as Supreme Allied Commander Atlantic, Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Atlantic Command, and Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet, playing a vital role in Cold War naval strategy.

A 1949 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, Admiral Train dedicated over three decades to the Navy, rising to command several key operational forces, including the attack submarine USS Barbel (SS-580), the guided-missile destroyer USS Conyngham (DDG-17), Cruiser-Destroyer Flotilla 8, and the United States Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean.
