American Airlines Captain Mike Reindl Brings the 30,000-foot View to Darden Classroom

After a lifetime in aviation, American Airlines Captain Mike Reindl is bringing decades of high-stakes leadership experience to Darden and learning to see business from a new perspective.

Reindl’s path to commercial aviation continued through the U.S. Naval Academy, where he earned his flight instructor certificate between his second and third years. His first student eventually became an F-18 pilot and, years later, a fellow pilot at American Airlines.

Reindl served in the Navy as a naval flight officer. Because his military flying hours did not count toward the civilian hours required to become an airline pilot, he continued working as a flight instructor for nearly a decade.
