Remembering CDR Brian Bourgeois ’01, USN

The Naval Academy community suffered a great loss on 7 December when CDR Brian Bourgeois ’01, USN, died from injuries sustained in a training accident. The U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association and Foundation expresses its sincere condolence to Commander Bourgeois’ family and friends. Our alumni community feels the pain of loss for each of its members, especially so when the loss occurs in the line of duty. His class was the last to graduate before the attacks of September 11 put our Nation on war footing and Bourgeois, along with his classmates, spent nearly their entire careers in harm’s way. During his time at the Academy, Bourgeois played football. He was honored at the 2021 Army/Navy football game. Two wide receivers wore SEAL Team 8 patches on their uniforms, while a #13 home jersey was placed on the Navy sideline and the team celebrated the Army-Navy victory with Bourgeois’ son in the middle of the celebration.

Navy Sings Second at Army-Navy Game

At the Meadowlands on 11 December, Navy proudly sang second, winning the Army-Navy game 17-13 in front of more than 80,000 Army-Navy fans, a record attendance. In preparation for this game, the Alumni Association held a virtual Army-Navy spirit week contest throughout the week, giving out prizes to our social media followers. Pre-game festivities kicked-off with a tailgate, enjoyed by many. The Midshipmen took the win in their Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet inspired uniforms. Check out the photos from the game and Spirit Week. Go Navy!
