Navy meets enlisted Sailor recruiting goal for 2nd straight year
The Navy recruited sailors at levels not seen since the early 2000s, surpassing its goal for the second year in a row. The service brought in 44,096 enlisted sailors, approximately 4,000 more than the goal for Fiscal Year 2025, the sea service announced Wednesday. The Navy announced in June that it met its recruiting goal — 40,600 enlisted sailors — three months ahead of schedule. The fiscal year's success also allowed the Navy to maintain a healthy number of recruits in the delayed entry pool, the population of recruits who enlist but do not proceed to boot camp immediately, Rear Adm. Jim Waters '89, commander of Navy Recruiting Command, told reporters on Monday.

Class of 1975 Gulf to Goat Update - Day 1
The journey began with a meaningful ceremony at Veterans Memorial Plaza, located just a quarter mile from the hotel. Introductions were led by USNA Class of 1975 alumnus RADM (Ret.) Mark Millikan, followed by a prayer from a local pastor for the group's safe travels.
Shortly before 9 a.m., the team of thirteen riders set off with a police escort provided by the Franklin County Sheriff's Office. Riding two by two, the group was accompanied by patrol cars in front and behind, their blue lights marking the start of the 22-day trek.
The first day's route followed the Gulf Coast for roughly 40 miles on smooth roads with light traffic. Riders paused briefly at mile 20 for a rest stop and again at mile 40 for lunch. At mile 44, the sheriff's deputies concluded their escort as the group transitioned onto a winding bike path leading to their destination at the Best Western Hotel in Crawfordville.
The day was marked by warm weather, a light headwind, and trouble-free riding, with no collisions, falls, or mechanical issues reported. The team ended the evening with dinner at a local Chinese restaurant, closing out what proved to be a strong and promising start to the trip.

This year-long exhibition highlights 250 years of innovation and technological progress, featuring artifacts from the museum's collections that trace advancements in navigation, communication, science, machinery, weaponry, platforms, and medicine.

Honoring USNA alumni on POW/MIA Recognition Day
The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency senior operations officer delivered remarks to fellow alumni marking National POW/MIA Recognition Day at the U.S. Naval Academy on Sept. 19, 2025. Jon Figuerres, a member of the academy's class of 1985, addressed his fellow alumni, who gathered at the Naval Academy to celebrate their 40th class reunion. During his remarks, Figuerres presented a POW/MIA flag, now flying at Hospital Point, and a poster listing the 55 U.S. Naval Academy alumni still unaccounted for from the Vietnam War. The poster was created by Jeanie Huffman, daughter of Navy Cmdr. Edward Jacobs Jr., missing in action since 1967. “Our class was uniquely shaped by Naval Academy leaders who themselves had endured captivity during the Vietnam War and who became living examples of resilience, courage and honor,” Figuerres said.

One of these things is not like the others

Yes — that's a United States Naval Academy Yard Patrol Craft among the many boats at this year's Annapolis Boat Show. In honor of the Navy's 250th birthday, the Yard brought one of its 108-foot YPs to the show. Normally used by midshipmen for hands-on training in seamanship and navigation, this floating classroom is rarely open to the public. Visitors had the unique chance to explore the ship, meet the crew and experience how tomorrow's naval leaders learn to stand the watch on the water.
