1920 - Bombing tests were carried out against the battleship Indiana (BB-1) in the Chesapeake Bay in an effort to determine the effectiveness of aerial bombardment against a stationary target and the ability of the ship to withstand damage caused by hits and near-misses. (14 October–1 November)

1944 - LTCOL Enrique Jurado '34, Philippine Army was killed by rival Philippine guerillas. A noted wrestler, he competed at the 1936 Summer Olympics. At the outset of the war he was the commanding officer of the Philippine's Offshore Patrol unit. He aggressively and successfully fought his small group of torpedo boats and other vessels for 100 days until the last was destroyed. For the rest of the war, until his death, he was with the Panay guerillas, fighting Japanese forces from within the Philippines and providing invaluable intelligence back to Allied commanders. The Philippine Navy commissioned BRP Enrique Jurado (PG 371) in honor of Henry; the sports complex at the Philippine Military Academy and the gym at the military headquarters of the Armed Forces of the Philippines are both named for him. He was survived by his wife and two sons.

Naval Academy Golf Course hosts annual Friends of Navy Golf (FONG) Tournament
Dozens of alumni, parents, staff and supporters of Navy Golf rallied amidst rainy and windy conditions Monday at the FONG Golf Tournament at the USNA Golf Course. FONG was founded by Admiral Hank Mauz '59 and Rear Admiral Bill Cobb '68 to help restore the Golf Course and support all aspects of golf at USNA. Head Golf coaches Jimmy Stobbs and Kylee Baker brought their players to join the Navy Golf supporters and addressed the group about their programs. Coach Stobbs proudly celebrated his team's recent wins in the CIC Cup and the N Star Match versus Army. Chairman of the Alumni Association & Foundation's Athletic and Scholarship Programs ADM Bill Moran '81 was on hand with AA&F staff to continue the tradition of supporting Navy athletics, our athletes and USNA facilities.

Former Naval Academy midshipman threatened mass execution, federal prosecutors say
A former midshipman who allegedly threatened the U.S. Naval Academy last month alleged he would carry out a "mass execution" of his peers, federal prosecutors revealed in court documents. Jackson Fleming, 23, allegedly posted the message on the Jodel app, which connects users with others in their local area and allows them to post comments anonymously. Investigators said he made the threat from his home in Chesterton, Indiana. He is charged with making a threat across state lines in connection with the incident. According to federal prosecutors, Fleming wrote, "Honestly not that surprised I'll be carrying out the mass execution of my peers in a couple."

Philadelphia unites to celebrate, honor servicemembers at U.S. Navy & Marine Corps 250 Parade
Under gray skies, Philadelphia gleamed red, white and blue Monday as crowds gathered along JFK Boulevard for a parade celebrating 250 years of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. Spectators braved the drizzle to mark the milestone anniversary, enjoying spirited musical performances and festive floats. "We have a lot of friends that have served in the Marines and in other branches," said Michelle Demoras, who came from Delaware County to watch the parade. "In spite of the rain, we just wanted to get out and show our love for all of our troops and all of the people that are enthusiastic for them, as well." The celebration featured military units, drill teams, marching bands and community groups. Organizers said about 5,000 people participated in the parade.
