Honoring Lt. Cmdr. Philip Labatte ’64 for Distinguished Service
Retired Navy Lt. Cmdr. Philip Labatte ’64 was recently honored at a ceremony hosted by the Melvin Roads American Legion Post in East Greenbush, New York, in recognition of his service during the Vietnam War.
A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Labatte completed two tours aboard the USS Saint Paul off the coast of North Vietnam. He later served with the 1st Marine Regiment as a fire support coordinator, including during the Battle of Khe Sanh in 1968 amid the Tet Offensive—one of the most significant engagements of the war.
During the ceremony, Labatte was presented with a Quilt of Valor, symbolizing gratitude for veterans who have been touched by war. He also received a commemorative portrait depicting both his present-day likeness and his time in service during Vietnam, honoring his sacrifice and legacy.
The recognition reflects a broader mission to honor veterans who have stood in harm’s way and to acknowledge the enduring impact of their service—both for our nation and for those who supported them along the way.
