USNA alumni lead nation's Capital Warship Construction (Sammataro '05)

CAPT Michael A. Sammataro '05, USN, relieved CAPT Hannah A. Kriewaldt '99, USN, as the 29th Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Conversion and Repair (SUPSHIP) Newport News during a 18 September ceremony presided over by RADM Casey Moton '91, USN. SUPSHIP Newport News oversees a team of more than 600 civilian and military personnel responsible for technical oversight, quality assurance and contract management supporting the Navy's nuclear aircraft carrier and submarine programs at Huntington Ingalls Industries–Newport News Shipbuilding. The ceremony also marked Kriewaldt's retirement following a distinguished 27-year naval career. A former Surface Warfare Officer and Engineering Duty Officer, she served as chief engineer aboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) and helped lead testing and trials for USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78). Sammataro assumes command after key leadership assignments supporting the Navy's carrier fleet and acquisition programs.
