From commanding at sea to leading with impact (Heinken '95)

Dale Heinken '95 spent 26 years in the U.S. Navy, rising to command both USS Freedom and USS Boxer while also serving as a strategic planner on the Joint Staff at the Pentagon. During his naval career, he led hundreds of sailors in operational and leadership roles around the world before retiring in 2021. After moving to Australia, Heinken entered the private sector and later earned a Senior Executive MBA from Melbourne Business School. Today, he serves as deputy director-general of the Australian Naval Nuclear Power Safety Regulator, helping establish the independent organization responsible for overseeing the safety of Australia's future nuclear-powered submarine program under AUKUS.
